1952 Gibson Les Paul - Dracula
BMVG's is pleased to present a killer 1952 Gibson Les Paul known as Dracula!
It comes to us from our buddy Chris Tapp of the Cold Stares. The provenance of the guitar is as follows. Bob Jenkins owner of Jenkins Music Co in Kansas City, MO. Purchased this instrument new in 1952 through his store. In 1968 his prized Les Paul had seen better days so Bob sent it to Gibson for a fresh factory refinish in Tuxedo Black. Gibson, as was common at the time also refreshed the hardware. Dracula received new tuners (double ring double line), plastics (pick guard, knobs, poker chip, p90 covers & jack plate) electronics (all date to late 67) as well as impressing a serial number into the back of the headstock #895223 (1968). The original "52" low logo, switch tip, holly veneer, trapeze & Lifton case remained.
In 2008, Bob decided to bring Dracula into the 21st century and asked renowned KC Luthier Mike Horan to reset the neck and add an abr/stop-tail set up. The 1968 paint was unaltered during this process. After Bob's passing in 2021, Mike Horan took custody of the instrument until it was sold to Chris Tapp and now us.
Dracula currently has a 50's non-wire ABR1 bridge, 50's short seam stop tailpiece & studs, 50's black bonnet knobs as well as 51/52 Kluson tuners with original tips. This instrument weighs a stunning 7 lbs 7oz coming in as the lightest maple top Les Paul that we've ever encountered. The p90's are sonically incredible and drive amps into ecstasy! They measure 7.77 N & 7.83 B respectively. The neck is a perfect med as we've all come to expect and love from first year Les Pauls.
All of the parts from 68 are included as is the original trapeze tailpiece from 52.
This instrument has an incredible look. The Gibson factory finish has had almost 50 years to mature and is wicked!
