1954 Fender Stratocaster

Black Magic Vintage is pleased to offer an exceptionally rare & stunningly gorgeous instrument...

1954 Fender Stratocaster - Hardtail!

Approximate production numbers for the first year of the Fender Stratocaster (1954) seem to hover around 270 units produced. It is believed that (21-27) non trem guitars were made which would give us a rough estimation of 7-10%, which makes sense. Most of the 54 HT's that have surfaced seem to have 9/54 production dates, which also simply makes sense that Fender would "knock out a batch" of non-trem guitars.

This example is dated 9/54 TG neck, 9/54 body and 9/29/54 Virginia on the tape in the cavity, see photos. It is also said that "full factory production" didn't begin on the Strat until 10/54 make of that what you will...

This instrument features a stunning single piece of tight grained Ash and the guitar weighs 7lbs 2oz in total. The neck has a terrific full profile that measures .92 @ 1st and 1.01 @ 12th, fantastic! We had this guitar re-fretted just a month ago with factory correct size wire; she is completely dialed in and ready to gig tonight! The pickups are articulate, snappy and very well balanced with a pleasing shimmer. They measure 5.5N, 5.6M & 5.5B respectfully and maintain their original windings. In fact everything under the hood and on the guitar is precisely as it should be. Guitars of this age rarely come with zero "knocks" this example shows some areas of touch up on the black only around the perimeter "edges" of the guitar. All of the plastics, electronics, tuners, bridge cover, strap, paperwork, center pocket case & cable is all accounted for and really make for a superb package.
